FLYERS' INJURIES:
2 Derian Hatcher (right knee damage) is on injured reserve.
6 Randy Jones (right hip surgery) was expected to be out about two months from early October and is on injured reserve. UPDATE: Practiced with the team for the first time, November 25. Indications are that he should return to the lineup about December 16.
12 Simon Gagne has a stomach virus/dehydration but hopes to play at Carolina.
25 Matt Carle (sore back) did not play the last two games and is questionable for Saturday.
44 Kimmo Timonen tweaked his left shoulder Thursday night but hopes to play at Carolina.
48 Danny Briere is expected to miss about 4-5 weeks from December 3. From Paul Holmgren: "Danny had an MRI today (December 3) on his stomach and groin area. There weren't any issues at all with his stomach but there is a significant groin strain in there and we're looking at Danny to be out of the lineup for 4-5 weeks."
77 Ryan Parent (shoulder surgery) was expected to be out about 12-14 weeks from early October and is on injured reserve. UPDATE: Practiced with the team for the first time, November 25. He could return in late December.

October 28, 2005 -- Eric Staal recorded a hat trick and Matt Cullen scored the go-ahead goal on the PP with 5:15 in Carolina's 8-6 home win. The Hurricanes scored five third period goals rallying from a 5-3 deficit after two periods. Rod Brind'Amour had three (1-2-3) points and Justin Williams (1-1-2) had two points. The teams combined to go 7-for-16 on the PP (Philly 4-for-9). Joni Pitkanen (three assists) and Jon Sim (two goals) led Philly. Keith Primeau played his final NHL game, as he suffered a concussion a few days earlier in a game at Montreal.
December 29, 2005 -- For the second straight night, Sami Kapanen scored in OT to lift the Flyers. This night, it came 1:27 into OT in a 4-3 victory. It marked just the second time in NHL history that the same player scored OT goals in consecutive days. Matt Cullen had two goals for Carolina. Philly outshot the Canes 40-28.
January 17, 2006 -- Rod Brind'Amour lifted Carolina to a 4-3 victory in Philadelphia with his shootout goal. Carolina won the shootout 3-2 as each side had four shots. The first four shootout attempts were successful but after Eric Staal and Simon Gagne both failed with the third try, Brind'Amour netted the winning shot; Martin Gerber then stopped Jeff Carter. In regulation, the Flyers led 1-0 after two periods and 3-1 in the third but Erik Cole knotted the game 3-3 with under four to play.
March 8, 2006 -- In a stunning finish, the Flyers won 3-2 at home on a last second goal in regulation and two key shootout tallies. Freddy Meyer's tip-in of a Mike Rathje blast at 19:59.4 (0.6 remaining) -- tied for the latest goal in Flyers' history -- sent the game into the extra session. Antero Niittymaki was fantastic including breakaway stops on Kevyn Adams and Doug Weight in regulation. Justin Williams scored for Carolina.
December 19, 2006 -- Despite 40 saves by Antero Niittymaki, Carolina recorded a 2-1 win in Philly. The Hurricanes led 2-0 and held a 30-16 shot advantage after 40 minutes. Jeff Carter returned to the lineup after missing the prior 20 games with a broken left tibia.
December 31, 2006 -- Robert Esche led the Flyers to a 5-2 win as he made 40 stops in a game otherwise dominated by the defending Stanley Cup Champs (shots: 42-19). The Flyers won for the second straight out after 10 straight losses. Peter Forsberg had three assists, Alexei Zhitnik scored the go-ahead goal and Ryan Potulny and Kyle Calder also scored. (Mike Knuble added an ENG). Ray Whitney scored twice for the Hurricanes.
February 22, 2007 -- Glen Wesley scored a SHG in 27 seconds into OT and the Canes won 3-2 in Raleigh. It was the fifth time a defenseman scored a SHG in OT since the 5:00 overtime period was instituted in 1983-84. Dmitry Afanasenkov and Alexandre Picard each had a goal and an assist for the Flyers. Justin Williams had two assists for the Hurricanes. John Grahame backed Carolina with 33 saves.
March 28, 2007 -- Jeff Carter (2-1-3), Mike Knuble (1-2-3) and Martin Biron (23 saves) led Philly to a 5-1 home win. Derian Hatcher had two points including a PPG. The loss by the Hurricanes followed a 6-1 defeat at Toronto. It marked the second time in NHL history that a defending Stanley Cup champion lost games on consecutive days by 4+ goals. (Also, Toronto in 1949-50).
October 20, 2007 -- Simon Gagne scored 48 seconds into OT, Martin Biron made 42 saves and the Flyers won 3-2. Gagne stopped a pass from Derian Hatcher with his skate and netted the OT winner for his 400th career point. Mike richards' PPG in the third period tied the game 2-2. Danny Briere had two assists for Philly. Cory Stillman had two assists for the Hurricanes. Carolina, on the final stop of a six-game road trip, outshot Philly 44-30.
November 21, 2007 -- Danny Briere (3-1-4) had his first hat trick with Philadelphia and Mike Knuble added three points (1-2-3) in a 6-3 win. All three goals by Briere came in the third period. Philly trailed 1-0 after 20 minutes and were outshot 10-3. The Flyers took a 2-1 lead into the final period in which they out-scored the Canes 4-2 despite being outshot 15-7. In the game, the Canes held a 35-21 shots advantage. Each side had three PPGs. Matt Cullen had three points for Carolina.
November 28, 2007 -- Mike Knuble (1-2-3) and Martin Biron (40 saves) led the Flyers to a 3-1 win at Carolina. The Hurricanes held a 41-34 shots advantage.
December 15, 2007 -- Rod Brind'Amour's shootout goal produced a 6-5 victory for the Hurricanes in Philadelphia. After Danny Briere missed the first attempt in the shootout, the next five shots were successful. Joffrey Lupul had a hat trick (and eight shots). The Flyers rallied from deficits of 3-1, 4-3 and 5-4. The Flyers held a 41-34 shot advantage. Brind'Amour didn't record a point in regulation, something he accomplished in each of the prior six games (2-4-6) against the Flyers. Unofficially, Brind'Amour has 5 goals, 12 assists and 17 points in 27 games against the Flyers for the Hurricanes (also 2-for-2 in the shootout). Justin Williams, unofficially, has 4 goals, 5 assists and 9 points in 13 games against the Flyers since his trade (0-for-1 in the shootout).
September 27, 2008 -- In the final NHL game in the Spectrum, the Flyers defeated the Hurricanes 4-2 in a preseason game. Mike Richards scored two SHGs.
November 26, 2008 -- Antero Niittymaki made 27 saves and Simon Gagne had three points (2-1-3 and was a +3) in Philly's 3-1 win in Carolina. The Flyers won for the sixth straight time. Carolina outshot Philly 28-27 despite being outshot 7-1 in the first period.
November 28, 2008 -- The Flyers' debuted their retro third jerseys but Sergei Samsonov beat Martin Biron in overtime to end the Flyers' six-game winning streak, 3-2 on Black Friday in Philadelphia. Carolina outshot Philly 30-26.
