December 20, 1973

October 15, 1970 -- The teams met for the first time and the Flyers edged Vancouver 5-4 in Philadelphia. The Flyers scored five straight times, two by Serge Bernier, after trailing 2-0. The goals were the first two in Bernier's NHL career. The Flyers vanquished Vancouver in the second period, 4-0 in goals and 16-5 in shots.
November 29, 1970 -- Andre Lacroix broke out of a 15-game scoreless drought with a hat trick and four points to lift the Flyers to a 4-2 home win.
December 1, 1970 -- George Gardner made 40 saves in the first meeting held in Vancouver's Pacific Coliseum and the Canucks rebounded from a late 4-3 deficit to win 5-4. Ray Cullen, in his final NHL season, had the GWG with about four minutes to play. Wayne Maki (2-1-3) led Van while Jim Johnson (2-1-3) led the Flyers.
December 15, 1970 -- Orland Kurtenbach snapped a 2-2 third period tie to lift the Canucks to a 3-2 home win. Charlie Hodge made 35 saves.
February 19, 1971 -- Simon Nolet snapped a 2-2 tie and a road team won for the first time in the series, 3-2, in the fifth meeting between the squads. Doug Favell made 30 saves. The Flyers led 2-0 in the third third period but the Canucks tied the game.
February 27, 1971 -- The Flyers trounced the Canucks 8-1 in Philadelphia as nine different players scored in the game. Philly erupted for five goals in the middle period and followed it with three more in the last period, all off Charlie Hodge. Doug Favell with the victory.
October 12, 1971 -- Andre Boudrias scored twice in Vancouver's three-goal second period rally and the Canucks prevailed 3-2 at home. The Flyers led 2-0 4:29 into the game.
October 28, 1971 -- Simon Nolet's second goal of the game snapped a 2-2 tie and the Flyers edged the Canucks 3-2 in Philadelphia. Larry Mickey scored the only goal of his 14-game Flyers' career to give Philly a 1-0 lead. Vancouver evened the game 2-2 with two early third period goals.
November 11, 1971 -- Simon Nolet's (1-2-3) third period goal snapped a 3-3 tie and the Flyers prevailed 4-3 in Philadelphia.
February 8, 1972 -- Bobby Clarke had three points (2-1-3) and the Flyers skated to a 3-1 win in Vancouver. Bruce Gamble made 30 saves for the Flyers in his final NHL appearance as it was determined afterwards that he suffered a heart attack during the game. Gamble fell to the ice at one point but he thought it was because he was hit with a skate or stick. He was taken to a hospital in Oakland as the Flyers flew there for their next game.
March 8, 1972 -- Barry Ashbee (1-3-4) scored midway in the third period to break a 5-5 tie and the Flyers recorded a 6-5 victory at Vancouver. Trailing 3-1, the Flyers scored four straight times before Van scored a pair to end the second period at 5-5.
March 26, 1972 -- The Flyers claimed a 4-1 win at home with a 46-21 shot advantage. Dunc Wilson gave up three goals before being replaced by Ed Dyck who stopped 25 of 26 shots.
October 12, 1972 -- The Flyers won 7-3 in Philadelphia as Simon Nolet scored twice and Bobby Clarke (1-2-3) had three points. The Flyers scored twice in 19 seconds which gave them a 3-0 first period lead. Dave Schultz scored the first goal of his NHL career in this game.
December 29, 1972 -- In a game highlighted by a brawl that spilled into the stands, the Flyers and Canucks battled to a 4-4 draw in Vancouver. The Canucks scored four PPGs, including two in the third period when trailing 4-2. Jocelyn Guevremont (Van) and Bill Barber (Philly) each scored twice. The game featured a massive donnybrook 7:31 into the third period. Bob Kelly and Jim Hargreaves fought while Don Saleski and Barry Wilcox also did along the glass. At that point, a Canucks' fan, a dentist by profession, reached over and yanked Saleski's hair nearly lifting him off the ice. Seeing this, several Flyers' players got involved: Barry Ashbee whacked the fan. The Flyers were issued citations requiring their appearance to Vancouver police on February 9, 1973 -- their next visit to Vancouver.
February 1, 1973 -- Bill Flett (2-1-3) led the Flyers to a 5-4 home win. The Flyers led 3-0 11:45 into the game and chased starter Dunc Wilson at 11:02; Ed Dyck replaced him. Vancouver cut the lead to 4-3 in the second period but Kelly sealed the win with 1:08 to play. After the game, Bobby Schmautz of Vancouver was asked about his in-game fight with Dave Schultz and said "My wife hits harder than Dave Schultz."
February 9, 1973 -- A day prior to Philadelphia's 10-5 pummeling of the Canucks in Vancouver, seven Flyers (Ross Lonsberry, Barry Ashbee, Ed Van Impe, Joe Watson, Don Saleski, Bill Flett and Bobby Taylor) appeared in provincial court for using obscene language and fighting fans with sticks in the December 29, 1972 affair, a June court date was set. Two minutes into this game, Vancouver's Bobby Schmautz received 11 stitches to his face courtesy of a fight with Moose Dupont. Philly led 2-0 4:03 into the game thanks to two SHGs, increased the margin to 4-0 at the 8:00 mark when they chased Dunc Wilson (four goals on eight shots) and led 6-2 after one period scoring four special teams' goals. Rick MacLeish (2-3-5) and Gary Dornhoefer (1-3-4) led the offense and Bill Barber (2-1-3), Bobby Clarke (1-2-3) and Tom Bladon (0-3-3) chipped in with three points apiece while Ross Lonsberry scored twice. The Flyers had four PPGs and two SHGs among their ten scores. After the game, Dupont uttered a now-famous quote: "Great trip for us. We don't go to jail. We beat up der chicken forwards. We score ten goal. We win. An' now de Mooze drink beer."
March 22, 1973 -- Ross Lonsberry (3-2-5) collected his first Flyers' hat trick and Philadelphia crushed Vancouver 9-0 in the Spectrum. Gary Dornhoefer (1-3-4) and Rick MacLeish (2-1-3) combined for seven points. The Flyers led 5-0 after one period and scored three times in the third period. Doug Favell made 31 saves for the shutout. Dunc Wilson gave up all nine goals.
June 8, 1973 -- The Flyers Seven, as they were dubbed, faced charges in a Vancouver court room relating to the December 29, 1972 fracas. Barry Ashbee, Ed Van Impe, Joe Watson, Don Saleski and Bill Flett were sentened to either $500 fines or 30 days in jail. Ross Lonsberry pleaded guilty to a disturbing the peace charge which was later dropped by the Judge and Bobby Taylor was later sentenced to 30 days in jail and fined $500 for assaulting a police officer. Taylor later denied hitting the cop and was bailed out of jail after serving 15 minutes.
October 19, 1973 -- The Canucks recorded a home win, 2-1, as Gary "Suitcase" Smith made 31 saves. Bernie Parent made 34 saves in the defeat. The Flyers entered the game with a 13-3-1 mark in the series and a 10-game unbeaten streak (9-0-1). It was the Flyers' first loss after a 4-0-0 start that season in which they out-scored their opponents 18-3.
November 17, 1973 -- Richard Lemieux of the Canucks scored in the third period of a 2-2 tie in Vancouver. Rick MacLeish and Bobby Clarke scored first period PPGs.
December 20, 1973 -- Philly battered Vancouver 9-3 in the Spectrum. Bill Clement (2-1-3), Bobby Clarke (2-0-2) and Ross Lonsberry (2-0-2) scored twice. Eleven Flyers had multi-point games. Future Flyer Bob Dailey scored consecutive second period goals to narrow Van's gap to 5-3 but Lonsberry had the momentum killer sixteen seconds after Dailey's second tally and four seconds before the intermission. At the 13:01 mark of the middle period, a major melee erupted with four players tossed including both reserve netminders.
January 22, 1974 -- The Flyers hung on for a 3-2 win in Vancouver. The Canucks scored twice in the last two minutes. The game was scoreless for the first 38+ minutes until Rick MacLeish (1-1-2) snapped it. Ed Dyck had 33 saves for the Canucks.
March 21, 1974 -- Rick MacLeish scored a SHG midway through the third period and later added an ENG insurance tally in a 3-1 home win. MacLeish's first goal came 19 seconds after Andre Boudrias evened the game. The Flyers were stopped on 40 of 43 shots by Gary Smith.
October 26, 1974 -- Jimmy Watson scored with 1:05 to play in a 3-2 win in Vancouver. Bill Clement scored twice within 53 seconds to even the score at 2-2 as the Canucks led 2-0 midway through the game. The Flyers improved to 13-1-2 in the last 16 games against the Canucks.
November 21, 1974 -- Gary Smith made 37 saves and Vancouver won for the first time in Philadelphia, 4-3 when Chris Oddleifson broke a 2-2 tie with 2:03 to play. Bobby Clarke (1-2-3) factored in all three goals. The Flyers held a 40-16 shots advantage, including 25-8 after two periods when Van held a 3-2 lead. Philly limited the Canucks to one shot in the middle period. The Flyers were 11-0-0 at home prior to this game. Vancouver would not beat the Flyers again until October 1978.

December 29, 1999 -- Adam Burt's overtime score, his first goal of the season, led the Flyers to a 3-2 win in Vancouver. Simon Gagne (1-2-3) participated in all three goals. Donald Brashear and Todd Bertuzzi gave Vancouver two leads. Philly outshot the Canucks 30-16. Garth Snow made 27 saves in the Canucks' loss.

Donald Brashear scored a key goal, March 4, 2003.

October 5, 2000 -- Eric Desjardins' goal with two seconds to play in the second period snapped a 3-3 tie and the Flyers responded with a 6-3 win at home in the season opener. Desjardins scored with about three minutes to play in the third period to give the Flyers a 5-3 lead, too. The Flyers scored three PPGs in the game but gave up a pair of SHGs in the first period. Justin Williams (1-2-3) led Philly's offensive attack. The Flyers eventually began the season with a 1-5-2 record, this being the only time they won in the first eight games.
November 25, 2001 -- Dan Cloutier made 23 saves and Mats Naslund scored twice in the Canucks' 4-1 win in Philadelphia. The Flyers went 0-for-7 on the PP. Keith Primeau fought ex-Flyer Murray Baron.
December 17, 2001 -- Donald Brashear was traded to Philadelphia with the Canucks' 6th round choice (later traded to Columbus - Columbus selected Jaroslav Balastik) in the 2002 Entry Draft for Jan Hlavac and Tampa Bay's 3rd round choice (previously acquired, Vancouver selected Brett Skinner) in the 2002 Entry Draft.
December 31, 2001 -- Simon Gagne scored with three seconds left in the Flyers' 2-1 win in Vancouver. It marked the fifth time in the last seven years that the Flyers played New Years' Eve in Vancouver and they had four wins and one tie. Roman Cechmanek made 22 saves and the only shot to beat him was by Matt Cooke with 3:58 to play.
March 4, 2003 -- Roman Cechmanek was superb with a 41-save shutout in the Flyers' 3-0 home win. Cechmanek was at his best by making 17 saves in the second period. All three goals came in the first period and Canucks' goalie Petr Skudra was replaced after giving up goals to Michel Handzus and Donald Brashear in the first 2:49. After the game, Cechmanek's comments included a reference to his 2002 post-season blowup: "Last season I was upset because I wondered if they were serious. I know our players are good. Now we're talking about it. We're trying to be better as a team because the playoffs will be tough for us.'' Keith Primeau said of Cechmanek "He has more confidence right now. And that gives us confidence." Head Coach Ken Hitchcock said of Cechmanek "He's involved in leadership meetings now and he is taking that seriously. He is at ease. He is at ease being a leader. He's a very, very competitive man." Primeau knocked down Ed Jovanovski in a fight: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IPJG3EPOh6A
November 13, 2003 -- Simon Gagne (1-1-2) scored in OT to give the Flyers' a 4-3 win in Wachovia Center. The GWG was set up on a feed from Marcus Ragnarsson who fed the wide-open Gagne. Todd Bertuzzi scored with eight seconds remaining in the third period to send the game into OT. After the game, Marc Crawford (head coach of Vancouver) was asked about his goalie Johan Hedberg and said "Terrible. He wasn't good and I probably shouldn't have started him." The teams alternated scoring the seven goals in the game. Ken Hitchcock coached his 600th NHL game. The Flyers and Canucks were the only two teams without a home loss at this stage.
December 15, 2005 -- Alex Auld made 39 saves, including 19 in the third period, and the Canucks won 5-4 in Philadelphia. Vancouver, down 3-2, scored three times to open the third and got consecutive goals from Anson Carter on assists from the Sedin twins. Henrik Sedin had three assists in the game. The Flyers lost three players to injuries who didn't return to the game: Mike Richards, Jeff Carter and Robert Esche, who left the game with a groin injury when the score was 4-3. In addition, Simon Gagne, captain Keith Primeau, Eric Desjardins, Joni Pitkanen, Turner Stevenson and Donald Brashear were out of the lineup.
September 12, 2006 -- Canucks' Group 2 free agent Ryan Kesler signed a one-year, $1.9-million offer sheet with the Flyers. That same day, Keith Primeau was reported to have retired due to concussions. Vancouver matched the offer to Kessler. It was the first offer sheet in the NHL since Carolina and Sergei Fedorov (with Detroit) agreed to a six-year, $28-million offer sheet in 1998.
October 10, 2007 -- The Flyers extended their unbeaten streak against the Canucks in Vancouver to 13 games (9-0-4) with an explosive performance in an 8-2 win. Philly led 4-1 after the opening period and 7-2 after two periods. The Flyers chased superstar goalie Roberto Luongo in the first period after scoring four goals on 13 shots. Curtis Sanford replaced Luongo at the start of the second, but he surrendered a goal on the first shot he faced. Mike Richards had four points (2-2-4) including the last goal while the Flyers were two men down (including the Jesse Boulerice penalty). Joffrey Lupul (1-2-3) and Danny Briere (1-2-3) had three points each. The Flyers improved to 14-3-1 in the past 18 games against the Canucks. Afterwards, the NHL handed Boulerice a 25-game suspension for a severe cross-check to the head of Ryan Kesler in this game: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8-Y3x0mr_Ik
